Certification Maintenance CPIM

The growing number of individuals choosing to pursue professional development through APICS Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) and Certified Fellow in Production and Inventory Management (CFPIM) indicates a strong awareness that continuing education and skills development are essential to meeting the information and technological challenges in today’s rapidly evolving workplace and global marketplace.  Professional development opens doors to individual career opportunities and organizational success.

The Certification Maintenance program upholds both the objectives of the CPIM and CFPIM programs and APICS’ vision to promote lifelong learning.  Requirements for maintaining certification can be met through multiple sources and a variety of professional development activities intended to help you prepare for the challenges ahead and to maintain your professional edge.

Every five years following initial certification, (unless you were certified prior to 1998) participants will have the opportunity to maintain their certification status through a system of points (75 for CPIM and 100 for CFPIM). It’s based on their involvement in the following four activity categories: Continuing education, presentation, publications, and educational development, service to the resource management profession, and professional membership.

If you were certified before December 31, 1998 you must submit a Certification Maintenance Application between January 1 through December 31, 2003, due the same month that initial certification was received.

If you were certified after January 1, 1999, you must submit a Certification Maintenance Application due five years from the same month that your initial certification was received.

How to Achieve CFPIM

The distinguishing characteristic of a Certified Fellow in Production and Inventory Management (CFPIM) is the willingness to share acquired knowledge with others through presenting, teaching, publishing and participating in APICS educational activities.  This knowledge sharing must be performed above and beyond a candidate’s normal job duties.

To obtain the CFPIM distinction, an application form must be completed and submitted to APICS headquarters.  Points are awarded based on the following criteria:  CPIM exams, presentations, published works, classroom teaching, and various volunteer/practitioner activities.
